In this video, we give you a tour of a prospector-style, 4-season tent that is completely off-grid. The tent is built with two layers of weather-proof canvas stretched over a wooden frame and is equipped with a double combustion wood stove for heat, a solar panel to power 1 LED light, and a propane fridge to keep food cool during the summer months.

The tent is separated into 4 quarters: dining room, kitchen, sleeping area, and woodstove/living room. There's also an outhouse, barbecue and picnic table outside.

Measuring approx. 15 x 18 feet, this tent would make a very comfortable tiny house, although we would make a couple of changes to make it more liveable over the long-term, including the addition of an indoor composting toilet, a couch in front of the fireplace, larger windows, and a more powerful solar system so that we could power more than 1 light.

This tent is a rental unit in Gatineau Park that can be accessed by snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in Winter, or hiking/cycling in Summer. For more information about renting a 4-season tent (or yurt) in Gatineau Park, visit the NCC website here:

Summer: http://www.ncc-ccn.gc.ca/places-to-visit/gatineau-park/things-to-do/camping-cabins-gatineau-park-summer

A special thank you to the NCC for allowing us to stay in this 4-season tent in order to film this video, and a big thank you as well to our family and friends who generously loaned us snow shoes, gloves, hats, a sleeping bag, and more to make this adventure possible!

Thanks for watching!

Toilet outside? Very nostalgic memory. Just like my village that I live 40 years ago.

You can actually cook on a wood stove, that's how they used to do it.

it would be nice for a adventure vacation.....but long term it would be impractical. ...you need an in door pooper and running water ...not to mention ...you need to be able to cook indoors ....maybe an earthship style house would be more suitable

My tent is made of 2x2 galvanized steel poles. Bolted frame.
Covered with chicken wire fence, and 40' tarps, and fire retarder synthetic roofing tarps. And there's no way in hell I'd put or use open flame, or a fire burning stove in it.
My solar panels can run 2 ac units and 2 radiators for heating. Plus lights. And my shower and toilet both has running water.

it is a nice solution for a transition period without children. Since such places are far away you might require a car to reach your place of employment? When the temperature drops to -4 F it surely gets really cold in the middle of the night when the stove stops burning. All over Europe it is only legal to set up such a house on a campground who charge approx $30 dollars per night, what is quite tough.

Trekking into a rental on a hard packed road on 500.00 snowshoes. Not wanting to do the dishes. Something is telling me this is not the kind of living you’re used to. I hope u called ahead to make sure it was a gun free zone.

Wont that material get damp and mouldy?

I could deal with this if there was no snow, so perhaps for a weekend place or a summer retreat. it's very cozy; I am just a glamper. ;)

Now I can tell my wife her mother can come live with us....in this in the far back yard of course. I'll get her a bucket for number 1 & 2 and not have to see the old bag until summer.

Where is the television?

Cool tent, but the countertop with the aluminum diamond plate is a fail... I've used it before, looks cool but it's raised profile surface is unstable and hard to keep really clean for a kitchen prep surface... using it for the back, and backslash is not as big of a deal. Also if they put the same, but insulated aluminum plate against the tent wall, behind the stove you would get a reflective heat factor, and look cool too. Not picking this tent apart, but just a few minor changes would really help in long winters. :)

Whenever a woman is saying how much "We" like this or that, she is really saying how much SHE likes this or that.

Calling that a tent, is calling what your doing camping. Your not camping.
