After disappearing into the night, the prisoners were never heard from again. Most believe they perished in the strong tides and frigid waters of San Francisco Bay, but was a successful escape possible using their methods?

they probably died doing other shit, who is to say they never committed other crimes or lived dangerous lifestyles afterwards?

They already proven they made their way to Brazil including a photograph and a letter written to the US government saying they would turn themselves in for free healthcare because one of the Anglin brothers was sick with Cancer.

The raft was never found.
But it consisted of 3 pontoons, was 14ft long, and 6ft wide.
Something doesn't add up.

Is the mythbusters just α myth?

If only those guys had access to a saftey buoy with dry bag and goose fat.

They could have got close and swimmed rest of the way.

In 1962 it was easier to go off grid and blend back into society. It was easier to obtain new identification and just go back.

I'm disappointed.

I was hoping for a chase scene with Dwayne Johnson...

you telling me these guys were so smart they didnt manage to get help from the outside for someone to pick them up from the water??? they needed the raft to just get away from alcatraz as no boats were allowed too close.

there ya go, they made it, or they got swept out to sea

the prisoners would have been padding 1000 times faster then them

what if they tied the raft behind the boat that takes the guards back to shore ;)

Vielleicht haben die ja nicht gehammert sondern mit Druck die klebestelle gerollt

The raft was found. And it was more like 15 rain coats.

"We Hold The Rock" tells the story of the occupation of Alcatraz Island in the 1970s by American Indian activists. https://youtu.be/vhRlsUFrljQ

During the escape a guard said that he saw a boat

What if they didn't know that they had to fill it with air every ten minutes

What kind of fool would escape from prison and reveal their location or name to state that they escaped? You'll go back to prison. They were smart enough to know better. Apparently three men hijacked a car at one point shortly after the time when they would have escaped. Also, there was something about someone working on a farm.

Jesse R The letter was written around 2012 which is almost 50 years after they escaped.

They found a life jacket at that location you went

Parts of the raft, a paddle and other belongings were found near Angel Island. Which makes me wonder: if the tide was so strong it would just carry them out to see, why were some small items still there in the bay to be found? I think they made it. Their family says they got cards from them and a friend gave them a photo of the brothers supposedly taken in Brazil in 1975

Isn't it shark infested

Brilliant prison break..but Never underestimate the water currents and tides of the bay..Personally I think they drifted out to sea...And no one kind hide for 50 years without someone seeing them and reporting them to authorities?

I don't understand how the FBI knew how the raft was made..

jeffg24LT21 There were 4 inmates planning the escape: Frank Morris, John Anglin, Clarence Anglin, and Allen West. When they were trying to leave the night of their escape West couldn’t get out due to him using cement to cover up the vent he was gonna escape instead of cardboard which was what the other 3 used. So when they were all going to escape, West couldn’t escape his cell. Morris did try to help him and West eventually did get through, but by that point the other 3 inmates had left and West came back to get some sleep. Afterwards, he told the guards what happened. TL;DR: The 4th inmate told the guards their plan.

Before the last one dies of old age, I want one of them to come forward on his death bed to admit to it. It would be one of the biggest news stories ever.

he gave details only someone that escaped would actually know,he gave certain details about the escape that proved it was real,if not they never would've announced it to the public(i also think he left some kind of proof on the letter like fingerprints)

they did,one sent a letter to the FBI on the 50 year anniversary of his escape

it's apparently happened lmao

+Mike Hunt As much as I think they made it, I don't think I believe the letter is legit.
I believe it's simply some random person trying to get everyone all hyped up about this case.

Guy already came forward in 2012, wrote the FBI a letter.
