When it comes to the origins of the universe, what essentials need to be affirmed for a view to be biblical?

Watch Tim Keller (founder of Redeemer Presbyterian Church and vice president of TGC), Russell Moore (president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and TGC Council member), and Ligon Duncan (chancellor and CEO of Reformed Theological Seminary and TGC Council member) tackle this controversial question in a new 12-minute roundtable video.

In this wide-ranging conversation, they discuss how the doctrine of creation makes sense of human dignity, racial equality, true peace and justice, purpose and meaning in life, and more. They also consider recent debates over the historicity of Adam and Eve.

In 6 days, God created everything and on the 7th day, He rested. He said that all He had made was very good. There was no death, disease or suffering before sin because there was no curse. Sin entered the world through one man whom God told, "if you eat of this tree you will surely die." In Chapter 3 of Genesis, Adam and Eve doubted God and disobeyed Him. Death then entered the world. The Gospel is presented here as God kills the first animal, which may have been a lamb, which was without blemish, to cover Adam and Eve's sin which they could not do on their own. Then you can explain the billions of fossils buried in rock layers, laid down by water that covered the Earth by a biblical flood. The entire message of Creation from our God-breathed Word is non-negotiable. I could continue but I need to get to sleep. Need to be at work in a few hours. Go check out Answers in Genesis for great resources.

Evolution is unbiblical. It is also unscientific.

You would have a much stronger argument if you could steel man, not straw man your adversaries. Straw manning is the weak apologetic device.

8:45 I wonder whether when the Bible says God created Adam out of the "dust of the ground" might it still not be a metaphorical expression meaning that Adam was the final being in an evolutionary chain which began out of the ground and ended with Adam ?

Don't say that you'll anger Ken Ham 😂😂😂 nah bruh I have considered it. I reject it, but with WAY less disgust. It's an acceptable view in my point, it's just not right in my eyes!

Tim Keller - "how do you build a society of justice and peace when you say "well nature is really all about power"?

Tim Keller thinks that justice and peace have no practical power to shape and influence a society in terms of its ability to thrive, compete and survive? I think his idea of the tooth and claw "power" of nature might be too narrow. That's not to say that might doesn't have a place in society. Justice often needs to be enforced for example. But show me a relatively peaceful, cooperative society with rules and a sense of justice pitted against a comparable one that lacks those qualities and I'd not bet so quickly on the long term chances of the lawless one!

Indeed... either the Text is being interpreted wrongly or... science is being interpreted wrongly... or a division between both, but what the Text is saying is not wrong, and science isn't saying anything... it really is just straight data with multiple interpretations imposed on it, and those interpretations are ever-changing. Spurgeon has a great quote about " the Broken Bottles of Science".... broken bottles indeed!

Right on Ligon Duncan "Creation ex nihilo", "science" cannot and will not acknowledge God brought into existence by his word.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made." (John 1:1-3)

A conservative version of theistic, creationistic evolution would say Adam came from a group of hominids living at the time but was changed and entered into a special covenant at that time.

Why not a special creation in the midst of a creationistic evolution.  Solves both problems.

You know, that scientific idea that it was a small group, I find that goes hand in hand with Noah's family.. Sure they all still had a common ancestor, but the way I understand it, the curse of Cain that was on Ham's wife, Egyptus, and from which the Egyptians sprang, could very easily have modified her DNA enough away from the rest of the Adam and Eve's descendents and provided enough genetic diversity to give the impression of more than a single couple.

Also how can you say Creation Ex Nihilo is central to Christianity when the original Hebrew wording means created/organised as in out of pre-existing particles...?

I think you can get Ex Nihilo from many, many places in the scriptures. Two very good examples are John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16. These verses tell us that God is separate from creation. Matter did not coexist eternally with God, but that whatever is seen or unseen was brought into existence by God. So I think Ex Nihilo is correct.

Using intellect to do a damage limitation job on their embarrassment of a simple Biblical Creation. How many times Tim Keller talks about Justice and Peace in society, to try and intellectually redeem the situation.

There will be No trini/oneness characsers in The Kingdom of God!!
You are clearly asylum material. Conscience distached from the brain, hence, "seared". Think long and hard if you can even allow logic to penetrate there somewhere, somehow. Then, and only then, let me know if you care to up-grade to the true God. Until then, the MOLECH god worship shall always infect you fully! You are believing the lie. How many others is the question from this point forth! You will not believe sound doctrine if it just fell on ya!! This is idolatry, spiritualism, blasphemous, and furthermore "YOU all have chosen a false God!" Heeding devil spirits of worshiping Jesus; and you as much as carry this heresy to the extreme, by actually making and professing him as God himself. Attributing evil to God AND Jesus Christ. Burning souls(they are never immortal) extremely and eternally. Confessing that the dead are alive, rather than fully unconscious. Denying the great and ONLY hope for the believers. Heeding assorted doctrines of men, which blind you of the doctrine of the only true God. Deny the operation of the gift of holy spirit; replacing this with human emotion and feelings, and attributing this possession to God. Diminish free will or disregard it fully. Earnestly expecting God to control you! NEVER! but the adversary will possess you in a heartbeat, if you open yourself up to the offer of it. The devil is seriously in the business of blinding, in order to trick and possess. I offer THE(only) WAY out via my Google+ page - Jesus Christ is the WAY to God! Take an exhausted look, and believe God, unto deliverance. Thanks, Tom. Get with the Word of God; FOLKS! God is eternal and immortal; God can not die; God can not be born; God is Spirit; God has no form or comliness. Jesus Christ is simply the offspring of God, the only-begotten, the same yesterday(refers back to his beginning, his birth) today and forever( for he has eternal life); even as we. His soul life is seperate from ours, not after Adam.God is unchangeable, God is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent. God would not have needed to grow and learn, but Jesus Christ did. Matthew 24:4,5 4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. What they say is that he is Jesus Christ, yet then they deceive MANY! They say that he is God(idolatry); they say that the dead are alive(spiritualism); they say that you should let the spirit have it's way in your life(possession); tongues has ceased(steal your power and authority in Christ); salvation is to be achieved by your works of obedience(fear tactics); that we need to work out our own eternal life( fear that cripples for a lifetime).NO sonship rights(not able to identify with Christ, for he is God, we mere sinners). 1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. 1 Corinthians 15:27,28 For he hath put all things under his feet. But when he saith, all things are put under him, it is manifest that he is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all. 1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; The WHAT? The WHAT? MAN! MAN! This should have settled it for us 2000 years ago!! NO one; NO ONE! Has the right to change GOD"S WORD!!

Tom Bladecki A Syllogism: How Gods Exit

Assertion 1. Biological matter, man, produces and communicates non-material concepts, thoughts. Non-material concepts can be adapted from periodic matter into material objects by biological matter.
Man’s heritage, in the form of the socio-cultural records of man and his objects, provides the evidence of the non-material, metaphysical expressions of man.
Assertion 2. In addition to a lack materiality of any god from any source, there is no consensus of unity regarding a physical form of the gods, nor does the evidence of a uniform consensus of physical form exist in the dogma of belief and temporal records of man’s heritage.
Conclusion. Gods exist as many concepts of man.

The above syllogism stands until it is refuted by a valid and sound argument (metaphysics) or by physical evidence of any one god to the contrary.

Conclusion restated with subjectivity and commentary. Gods exist as poorly formed concepts of man. Choosing to make any poorly formed concept one’s core belief and the basis for one’s values is a psychological matter often made into a public display.

John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
What is the word?
John 1:14 "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."
The begotten, Jesus, is the Word. The Word was God. Therefore, Jesus is God.

John 8:57-58 "Then the Jews said to Him, 'You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?' Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."
What is "I AM?"
Exodus 3:14 "And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And He said 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, "I AM has sent me to you."'"
God tells Moses he is I AM. Jesus is I AM. Therefore, Jesus is God.

Mark 2:18-19a "The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, 'Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?' And Jesus said to them, 'Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them?'"
Who is the bridegroom?
Hosea 2:19-20 "I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in lovingkindness and mercy; I will betroth you to me in faithfulness, And you shall know the LORD."
Jesus is the bridegroom, and God is the Bridegroom. Therefore, Jesus is God.

Mark 13:26-27 "Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven."

"...the Son of Man..."
Who is the Son of Man?
Daniel 9:13-14 "'I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.'"

Whom will all peoples, nations, and languages serve?
Psalm 22:27-28 "All the ends of the world shall remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations shall worship before you, for the kingdom is the LORD's, and He rules over the nations."
The LORD, Yahweh, is king over all nations. the Son of Man is king over all nations. Therefore, the Son of Man is Yahweh. Jesus is the Son of Man. Therefore, Jesus is Yahweh.

"...coming in the clouds..."
Who is coming in the clouds?
Revelation 1:7-8 "Behold, He is coming on the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. 'I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,' says the Lord, 'who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.'"
Jesus is coming on the clouds. He who is coming on the clouds is the Almighty, God. Therefore, Jesus is God.

"...He will send His angels..."
Who sends angels?
Psalm 91:9-11 "Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; for He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways."
The LORD has charge over angels. Jesus has charge over angels. Therefore, Jesus is the LORD, Yahweh.

"...gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven"
Who gathers their elect from the farthest part of earth?
Jeremiah 31:7-8 "For thus says the LORD: 'Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations; proclaim, give praise, and say, "O LORD, save your people, The remnant of Israel!" Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the ends of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and the on who labors with child, together; and a great throng shall return there."
The LORD, Yahweh, gathers His people from the corners of the earth. Jesus gathers His people from the corners of the earth. Therefore, Jesus is Yahweh.

John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep."

Who is good?
Luke 18:18-19 "Now a certain ruler asked Him, saying, 'Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?' So Jesus said to him, 'Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God."
Only God is good. Jesus is good. Therefore, Jesus is God.

Who is the shepherd?
Psalm 23:1 "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."
The LORD, Yahweh, is the shepherd. Jesus is the shepherd. Therefore, Jesus is Yahweh.

How can this be? Isn't God One? Yes.
John 10:30 "[Jesus answered,] I and My Father are one."

How does this work? As you said, Paul writes:
1 Corinthians 11:3 "But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God."

Is Woman therefore less than the man because the man is her head? Well, what does the Bible say?

Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
Genesis 2:23 "And Adam said:

“'This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.'"

Therefore, as Woman is one flesh with man, of the very same substance, as the woman is equal in dignity and stature as the man, both being created in God's very image, so too is Jesus Christ one flesh with God, equal in dignity and stature to God. Paul attests to this, Jesus claims this when He gives Himself titles, and the prophets attest to this when they say He shall be called Emmanuel, "God With Us." Do not preach a false Christ.

Read some of his stuff. I'd say he's eager to really believe the Bible, as truth, as authoritative, as perfect. He's ALSO willing to question it and nut it out. Which I'd say christians should do :) He's written some articles on his thoughts on creation/evolution and Genesis. Before we make judgements we should be very careful to understand what the other person is really proposing.

This is such a load of BS.
And science isn't sometimes showing you, you interpreted the biblical text wrong (as if that grants you to twist it your way for any desired outcome), science is science, a tool to find answers about the natural world/universe.

When, as said in the video, you accept science to find the truth about things, but at the same time claim this also about the bible, you really just shot yourself in the foot.
