General Motors was playing off the F-body platform when designing the third-generation Chevrolet Camaro which was also used on the "20th Anniversary Commemorative Edition" for 1987 and "25th Anniversary Heritage Edition" for 1992. The biggest update that came with this generation was the first use of fuel injection, the 4-speed automatic and 5-speed manual transmissions and a hatchback body which gave it a very aerodynamic design. This generation also received a Z28 model which brought a few other great features such as the lightweight fiberglass SMC hood with functional hood air induction flaps, had a bit of a different nose and a three-piece spoiler.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this highly original, fully documented example of the 1986 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z/28 for your consideration. Just looking at this model will throw you back to the 80’s and make you reminisce of those times when you were wishing to be behind the seat of one of these awesome new age muscle cars. I remember there was an IROC Z28 for sale when I was in HS in the mid to late 90s. I forget the year the car was. I think they wanted $8K for it, had low miles and was a So Cal car. I wanted it so bad, but I didn't have rich parents to help me buy said nice car like other kids. Like this one asshole in particular. Daddy bought him a new Mustang and then he thought his shit didn't stink. Copped a real bad attitude after that. I saw him a year later and he had a newer car a Mercury Cougar. I tried saying hi to him and ask what happened to his Mustang, but he was too good to talk to me. Looked at me and drove past me. Now me? I didn't get my first car until I was in the army. One of the guys tried to sell me his 90/91(?) IROC Z28, but we were leaving for the invasion of Iraq. So, I declined his offer. Nice car, very well kept. Even had a nice after market sound system in it. Just needed a paint job after all the work (and money) he put into it. Guy was a car guru and had everything under the hood and than some. Real life fast and furious car magician. That car could really move! I think he was getting divorced and needed the money so that's why he was selling it.

This car may have been somewhat pricey in its day, but today? Damn thing would cost at least $75K. Back than if you had a decent enough job, you could still buy a Z28. Hell, my 3rd grade teacher had a brand spanking new 89 IROC Z28. And teachers get shit pay. 2019? Fuck no. Gotta make 6 figures to own one.
